California Court Backs Gay Marriages
Mr. Christopher from the My Wedding Favor Blog. Reuters just announced a groundbreaking development that has just been allowed by a California court today. The California Superior Court no less. The court decided in a majority decision that it’s simply unconstitutional to deny same sex couples the rights granted to an opposite sex marriage and stated that the state cannot bar such a union. The court stated, “we conclude that to the extent the current California statutory provisions limit marriage to opposite-sex couples, these statutes are unconstitutional.”
Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Vermont permit same-sex civil unions and accordingly offer the same state rights as married couples, but they do not “legally” recognize them to pen and paper. California will now be added to that list. But currently, Massachusetts is the only state in the United States that allows complete and unfettered support of gay marriages. California may very well be the next in what gay marriage supporters are calling a historic day and big win for same sex partners. The court concluded, that the decision now “guarantees same-sex couples the same substantive constitutional rights as opposite-sex couples to choose one’s life partner and enter with that person into a committed, officially recognized, and protected family relationship.”
But it’s not over. Opponents of gay marriage are outraged and plan to rally state voters to override this decision so that gay marriages don’t get recognized and disallow same sex nuptials. For now, gay supporters are extremely excited because this was a battle long fought. As for me, I highly suggest that anyone who’s planning to get married to visit My Wedding Favors for the best selection of wedding shower party favors, bridesmaid gift ideas and much more.
